Erik Johan Stagnelius: Endymion

Endymion

Discretion, with FLAMING skin and eyes closed,
Slumbering shepherd so sweetly in Manan rays.
Night steaming winds
Blow his curly hair.

Speechless, with LOVESICK eyes and wet cheeks,
Delia sees him from the Cabinet heights;
Now the brilliant charade
Float she QUAVERY of closure.

And the brighter light, at her arrival,
Radiate valleys and mountains and myrtenskogar.
Without förerska span
Stacks of silvrade clouds.

Shepherd sleep in quiet: elysiskt gleam
In his curly hair goddess tears.
In his booming lips
burns its heavenly kiss.

Silence, sigh of wind in the trees crowns!
Rose Crane Sade Bride of saffron bed
Treat shepherd to undisturbed
His dream of heavenly dream.

When he wakes up again, what dreadful emptiness
FLAMING his soul not around to find!
Only in dreams Mount Olympus
Rises to lethal down.

The poem in Swedish

2 comments:

  1. Things that stayed Swedish:
Manan - From Månan, a name given to the moon (månen) making it appear humanlike and female.
förerska - old swedish for female driver.
silvrade - constructed word meaning "silverified".
    elysiskt - elysian.

  2. Also, the capitalized words are probably ones that they suggest looking up on their own because of their many possible translations.
